Did you know that the first woman to become the United States’ Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, is actually Czech by birth and that the Czech language is her mother tongue? Her original name was Marie Jana Korbelova and she was born in Prague in May of 1937 as the daughter of Czechoslovak diplomat Josef Korbel, who fled to England with his family after the Munich Agreement of 1938. Because they were Czech Jews three of her grandparents were murdered in German Concentration Camps.
